The species occupies a range of coastal environments, including sandy, gravelly and muddy coasts, below the low tide mark. It is the largest marine snail that is found around our coastline measuring up to 10 cm long and it lays its eggs in a spongey mass onto the sea floor or subtrata. When the eggs hatch, the empty egg case bundle often can be found washed up on the sea shore.
