They are often found in large numbers known as brittlestar beds. The five fine arms are waved about in the water column and used to capture small food particles. These are then transported down the arms and into the central mouth on the underside. Amazingly the anus is actually located on the upper side of the body. This means that the animal ‘poos’ over itself!
