They are related to starfish and sea urchins. A ‘claw-like’ structure is used to securely hold the featherstar onto the rocky seabed. Just like brittlestars, microscopic food is captured in the water column, using the ‘feather-like’ structures wafting in the water. These are actually modified arms. As with all the starfish the mouth is located centrally at the base of these arms.
